Happy Homemaker Monday

hhm

The weather in my neck of the woods:

It will be in the mid-eighties ALL WEEK! If there was no humidity it would be the perfect week!

Things that make me happy:
Going swimming with Jeremy and Layla. Layla paddles so hard around the big pool! She doesn't even need us to hold on to her anymore!

Book I'm reading:
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I've heard so many good things about it, and all my friends know that I'm an Austen fan so they've been asking if I've read it. I'm about 10 chapters in and I hate it already.

What I'm enjoying on TV:
The Bachelorette
World Cup soccer games...sorry I mean, football games =)

On the menu for dinner:
I've got pork chops cooking away in the crock pot.

On my To Do List:
Get rid of this head ache.
Finish cleaning the kitchen.
Go swimming with Layla and Jeremy when the Brazil-Chile game is over.

New Recipe I tried or want to try soon:
I want to make my mom's sloppy joes recipe with homemade scones. Those were some yummy scones!!!! (Mom, please E-mail me the recipe if I forget to ask you!)

In the craft basket:
Candle holders from glass jars.

Looking forward to this week:
Warm weather and ZERO thunderstorms or rain of any sort in our near future!

Tips and Tricks:
On long car trips pack a cooler with drinks and refreshments so you don't have to stop every time one person gets the munchies.

My favorite blog post this week:
RunnerDude's post on the responsibility parents have to keep their children active and healthy. He offers tips on how to make it fun for them and not a chore so it gives them an active lifestyle. Inspire, don't require!

What I'm enjoying on TV:

PEEK-A-BOO!!

During one of Layla's periods of boredom and restlessness Grandpa Jim got up with her and they played peek-a-boo for a while. She loves playing peek-a-boo!!

COLLEGE WORLD SERIES!

This is the last year they will be holding the college world series at Rosenblatt stadium. They'll be building a new one in the downtown area of Omaha. Since Florida State's team made it we decided to go to the first game of the series. Layla was a little cranky from lack of sleep (she got up at like 6 that morning,) but other than that she had fun running around and playing with her grandpa Jim. I'm glad we were able to go to Rosenblatt one more time before they tear it down.

Summer Time

The other day it was ridiculously hot outside and I wanted to take Layla and cool off at the base housing pool. It's right down the street from us, and Layla has never been in anything larger than an inflatable pool. So I made a trip to Target to get some floaties and some pool toys and we were off!

Layla enjoyed the kiddie pool. It's about 20ft x 15ft and is ankle deep the whole way through. She made some new friends to run around and splash with.

When we pulled up in the parking lot she saw the pool and got really excited. I set her down and had her wait for me on the sidewalk before heading over. She got too excited and started running and fell pretty hard. That's why she has that big scrape on her elbow. It didn't really phase her though, she was much to excited to play in the water!

Summer Reading

I have a to-read list on goodreads.com that is way too long. I need to knock those books out quickly. So I am making a summer reading list of 50 books. I've finished 3 already and am in the middle of a 4th. The first 3 were Marsha Altman's The Darcys and the Bingleys series. They were her take on what would have happened after Pride & Prejudice. I don't think Jane Austen would have taken it in that direction, but I was entertained and loved the characters she created. Right now I am reading Northanger Abbey. It's one of the two Austen novels I haven't read. I keep getting distracted with all of the JA fan-fiction. There are SO MANY novels that are based on her works, and I'm trying to get through them all.

Lesson learned the past few days:

Align CenterWell, I was feeling some pain in my shins after a lot of running this week and I just ignored it, and instead of resting I went for a long run yesterday. Big mistake. I need to learn to listen to my body. I should have taken it easier because today I'm hurting pretty bad.

On my mind:
Getting my shins better so I can keep running.
